Mitochondrial DNA Polymorphism in Russians from West Siberia

The mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of 60 Russians from West Siberia was analyzed with the following restriction enzymes: BamHI, HindlII, PstI, Pvull and Sacl that recognize 6 bp. The observed restriction fragment length polymorphisms (morphs) were classified into 13 types of distinct cleavage patterns (mitotypes). The distributions of the mtDNA morphs were compared with those characteristic of some other human populations.
